Clean Up & Picnic - Green Drinks November Gathering

Dear friends

We are invited by Heritage Parks Federation, currently the managers of Il-Majjistral Nature and History Park (Mellieha) to take part in the clean-up of the area on Saturday 12th December from 10am till 1pm. We are meeting near Manikata Church.

Other volunteers form different NGO's will also be attending the event. As part of the event, 150 olive trees will be planted in an area which was formerly used as a land fill. Tree planting will be for free for those persons helping in the clean up, yet any donations will be appreciated and a name tag would be then affixed to the tree in the name of the person.

Gloves, garbage bags and wheel barrows will be provided but if you have some gloves please bring them.

If weather permits, we will have a picnic Green Drinks style after the clean up:)

Invite your family and friends!! If you are interested in joining us, send an email to info@greendrinksmalta.org.

kind regards

The Spirit of the Hands on Approach

The below shows how individual ppl can make a difference in the world around them.If you have more stories please send them to us :)

Read more at Treehugger

"Three to four tonnes of free papers are dumped in this city every day. Only a small amount is ever recycled. They have become a real blight. One group last year collected all of the papers left behind in just one day. They collected 1,500 and dumped them in Trafalgar Square as a symbol before they were sent off to be recycled. Another group collected thousands and made a newspaper house out of them as a form of awareness raising.

The experience has empowered its creator, Claire Wilson. She says "Starting Choose What You Read has changed my outlook. I've realised it's possible to do something about things that bother you. After the first hand-out we were practically high on feeling we'd changed the world. But even though we might not have done that, if we've just got 20 people to change their minds about taking the free papers, that's already a great thing to have done."

BEACH CLEAN-UP ORGANISED BY GAIA FOUNDATION

SATURDAY 28 MARCH 2009 | 10 AM | Ghajn Tuffieha Bay

*******************************************************************************

Project Gaia is based upon integrated coastal zone management in the Maltese islands. We are a non profit, non government organisation set up in June 1994 to specialise in this field of environment management. Gaia is part of the Global Ecovillage Network, member of the Worldwatch Institute, and part of the Gaia Movement world wide.

Since we are a hands on project implementation group we do not have resources for campaigns. However we do support other local campaigns, especially those that involve issues that may have an impact on our coastal zone and disseminate information provided by the Worldwatch Institute.

We are currently managing two areas of ecological importance that fall within the proposed sites for the European Natura 2000 Network; under agreement with the Malta Environment and Planning Authority (MEPA) and the Ministry for Rural Affairs and the Environment (MRAE)

What is the HANDS-ON initiative?

The HANDS-ON initiative is a space where people can offer their help to other volunteer groups.
From time to time individuals organise activities such as clean-ups , training camps, organic farming etc. and without help from volunteers these would not be possible.
We will be offering a space for people to offer their help. The help can be time or manual labour but also could be in the form of a particular resource or expertise.
For this we have set up a Facebook group ( look up "Green Drinks Malta: HANDS-ON") and this blog is a continuation of the project.
So it's time for some action .
Together through passion and action we believe that people can transform their communities thus creating the positive change we wish to see in the world.
